First Glimpse of the Skylake NUC

The guys at Legit Reviews have posted what the next iteration of Core i3/i5 NUC will probably look like. Powered by the coming Skylake processors, the coming NUC6i3SYK/H and NUC6i5SYK/H seem to be an incremental upgrade over the Broadwell (and the Haswell, if you like) models.

The i3 model is to be powered by a Core i3-6100U CPU and the i5 model will sport a Core i5-6200U. Earlier this month FanlessTech gave some background info on these coming Skylake CPUs. Basically both run at 2.3 GHz base frequency, but only the i5 will have turbo boost up to 2.8 GHz. Both are dual-core processors with 4 threads and feature a HD Graphics 520 GPU.

External connectivity seems to be the same as the previous generation NUC: Mini-HDMI 1.4a, Mini DisplayPort, 4 USB 3.0 ports (with 1 charging port), Gigabit Ethernet, 3.5 mm audio jack and infra red receiver. Under the hood we’ve got two slots for DDR4 SO-DIMM memory and an M.2 slot. Likely there’s a 802.11ac wireless adapter with Bluetooth 4.0 support soldered to the main board.

Thanks to Pawel for giving me a heads-up of the Legit Reviews article.

Any guesses at to whether or not the Swift Canyon line will be able to drive at least 2 4k displays at full resolution at 60Hz?

If indeed the mini-HDMI port will be a 1.4a version, it means that this NUC will be able to drive a 4K 3840×2160 (Ultra HD) resolution at 30 Hz tops.
